JEFFERSON VALLEY, NY - State Senator Terrence Murphy responded to today's remarks by the Governor on the Common Core standards.
"Governor Cuomo has just announced he believes the implementation of Common Core is 'not working,' and the current program must now go."
"That is exactly what I, and the tens of thousands of families who opted their children out, have been saying since the disastrous implementation of this flawed system began.
"The test questions were not grade appropriate, the system did not take into account a child's learning disability, and our educators were forced to teach to a flawed test.
"I have three beautiful children who, like your kids, deserve the highest quality education we can possibly give them. After two years of opting my own children out of these exams, I am ecstatic that the Governor now acknowledges the challenges parents across New York have been facing.
"I now look forward to working with the Governor, parents, educators, school administrators and most importantly the children of our state, to put forth an education system that gives everyone an opportunity to succeed."
