Queens Chronicle: A Pool Party at Samuel Field Y
June 10, 2015
A ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony for the newly renamed and renovated Tanenbaum Family Pool in Little Neck was held last Thursday, with its benefactors, elected officials and leaders of the Samuel Field Y all joining in the celebration.
Formerly the Deepdale Community Pool, the facility is located across the street from the Y, which renovated it, largely using a donation from the Tanenbaum family, and will operate it.
Above, the Tanenbaums cut the ribbon at the ceremony, joined by state Sen. Tony Avella, left, and Assemblyman Ed Braunstein, fourth from right, who allocated state funding for the facility, including to upgrade its handicapped access.
Speaking after the ribbon-cutting, pictured with microphones, were Lawrence Gottlieb, president of the Y’s Board of Directors, and Jeri Mendelsohn, the organization’s executive vice president and chief executive officer.
The facility also holds courts for basketball, tennis and handball, as well as other amenities. The Y is raising funds for more upgrades, with donors able to buy pavers with their names on them as one option.
