Five Star Premier Residences Community Connect Networking Breakfast
March 10, 2016
(Yonkers - March 10th) Senator Stewart-Cousins brought an important safety message to residents at the Five Star Premiere Residence in Yonkers about ways these seniors can protect themselves against unscrupulous people who may try to trick them into providing financial assistance or important identifying information. With the assistance of Gary Brown of the NYS Office of the Attorney General, the Senator was able to provide details about scams including the Grandparent scam. That's when a caller claims to be a grandson or granddaughter and is in trouble in a foreign country. The caller asks for immediate financial assistance. Seniors should not act but instead hang up and contact a family member. Also, to avoid unsolicited calls, the Attorney General's Office suggests simply not answering your phone unless you know who is calling. Senator Stewart-Cousins will be bringing this important information to other local seniors in the coming months.
