Squadron Brings Cherry Blossom Trees to the Bowery

Squadron Continues Bowery Beautification, Safety Improvements

NEW YORK – Today, State Senator Daniel Squadron announced 11 new cherry blossom trees coming to the Bowery, along with the Parks Department, Councilmember Chin, and Justin Yu. Squadron secured the cherry blossom trees with the Parks Department ahead of the upcoming Cherry Blossom Festival, along with Confucius Plaza and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce.

"This year the community can welcome the Cherry Blossom Festival and celebrate Earth Day with some great news -- 11 new cherry blossom trees coming to the Bowery," said State Senator Daniel Squadron. "I thank Manhattan Borough Parks Commissioner Castro and the Parks Department, as well as Justin Yu, the Chinese Chamber, and the Confucius Plaza community for continued efforts to improve the Bowery." 

Squadron is also working with Department of Transportation (DOT) and community members to bring additional street safety improvements and beautification to Division and Bowery. These include sidewalk improvements and extensions, additional planters, and reconfigured parking. In early 2010, he worked with DOT to establish the Bowery Street median as a traffic calming measure. Later that year, Squadron secured 37 cherry blossom trees for Confucius Plaza and Bowery Street, along with the Parks Department and community leaders.
