Statement from State Senator Gustavo Rivera on the Attack at Ohio State University
November 29, 2016
"It is disturbing that students have once again become the target of violence where they go to learn and build a bright future for themselves. University campuses should always be a safe place for students to develop and grow. I would like to recognize the first responders and the coordinated efforts of law enforcement for swiftly and effectively securing the safety of Ohio State University. Their efforts are not only courageous, but also speak to the importance of effective training and coordination in ensuring our public safety. Yesterday's incident was a tragedy, but we cannot confuse the actions of one troubled individual with the values of the Muslim community or the thousands of individuals that come to our country as refugees. My thoughts and prayers are with those injured and the whole Ohio State University Campus family as they begin to heal."
