Statement from State Senator Gustavo Rivera on U.S. Attorney's Decision To Not Convene a Grand Jury in the Case of Ramarley Graham
March 8, 2016
"I'm shocked, disappointed and outraged by the U.S. Attorney's decision to not charge NYPD Officer Richard Haste over the death of Ramarley Graham. Once again, the criminal justice system has shown its most prejudiced side and has failed by not holding anyone accountable for the unjustifiable death of an unarmed man.
Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Sandra Bland, Ramarley Graham, and countless others are not only victims of terribly unjust deaths, but also of an unbalanced justice system that continues to fall short when it comes to providing basic justice to communities of color.
We demand accountability: nothing more and nothing less."
