Senator Bonacic Announces $100,000 Grant for the City of Port Jervis

(Middletown, NY)- Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) is pleased to announce that the City of Port Jervis has been awarded a $100,000 grant for revitalization of its downtown area. The funding was secured through the State Municipal Grant Program, money for which was included in the 2016-2017 State Budget.

The project, called Front Street Revitalization 2017, will include a wholesale revitalization to Port Jervis’ main downtown area. The grant will help with the modification of sidewalks and parking areas to make them fully ADA compliant, and also the clearing of trees and plants that encroach on the ADA accessible sidewalk area.

In addition, the grant will also help the City of Port Jervis purchase electronic crossing devices which will be located at crosswalks, and which will be solar powered. Finally, the grant will allow the City of Port Jervis to install brand new crosswalks that highlights the entire crosswalk space making it appear as if it is a brick walkway with color distinct from the roadway and with a textured surface to promote recognition for the blind and visually impaired of the crosswalk space.
