Senator Bonacic Announces $50,000 Grant for the Gardiner Fire Department
April 14, 2016
(Middletown, NY)-State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) announced today that he has secured a $50,000 grant for the Gardiner Fire Department, for the replacement of a boiler at Station #1 and the replacement of a roof at Station #2. The grant was secured through the State Municipal Grant Program, funding that was appropriated in the 2015-2016 State Budget.
Station #1 currently houses the lion’s share of Gardiner’s emergency response vehicles, firefighter and EMS training, the communications center, and administrative centers. Part of this grant will go towards replacing the 30 year old boiler currently at Station #1. The other portion of this grant will go towards replacing the roof at Station #2, which is in need of immediate repair. Station #2 is strategically located less than a mile from the Mohonk Preserve and just a few minutes from Minnewaska State Park, and it is the first line of attack for rescue and firefighting operations in that area.
“Our volunteer firefighters are on the front lines, protecting our communities every day,” said Senator Bonacic. “This grant will help the Gardiner Fire Department to continue to effectively serve their local community, while also saving Gardiner taxpayers’ money.”
“I want to thank Senator Bonacic for his help in securing this grant for the Fire Department. These funds will go a long way towards allowing us to continue to provide the lifesaving services that our community depends on,” said Gardiner Fire Department Chief Dave Bailin.
