Senator Bonacic Announces $50,000 Grant for the Town of Hamden for the Replacement of Dry Hydrants and Purchase of a Street Sweeper

(Middletown, NY)-Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) announced today that he has secured a $50,000 grant for the Town of Hamden, to replace dry hydrants, and help purchase a street sweeper. The grant was secured through the State Municipal Grant Program, funding for which was included in the 2015-2016 State Budget. The grant would, in part,  help replace a dry hydrant on County Route 2 in the hamlet of DeLancey, and one on County Route 26 at a settlement in Hawley’s Station. They were both washed out during Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, in 2011. These dry hydrants  are used by attending fire departments in case of fires in the hamlets of DeLancey and Hamden, and the surrounding areas.

The grant would also be used to help fund the purchase of a new street sweeper for the Town. Currently, the Town operates a street sweeper that is cumbersome and out dated. The new street sweeper would save the residents of the Town money, by decreasing its costs to operate, and also give the residents more timely road sweeping and cleaning.

“I am pleased to be able to secure this grant for the Town of Hamden,” said Senator Bonacic. “This grant helps address two important things, public safety, and infrastructure, while at the same time, saving the taxpayers money.”

“The Town of Hamden is very appreciative to the Senator for this grant. Without it, we would not have the funds to purchase a replacement street sweeper or to repair our flood damaged fire hydrants. The street sweeper will improve the water quality in our immediate watershed, and the repair of our dry hydrants  will give added fire protection to our community,” said Town of Hamden Supervisor Wayne Marshfield.
