Senator Bonacic Announces $50,000 Grant for the Village of Walton for Townsend Street Stabilization
March 17, 2016
(Middletown, NY)-Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) announced today that he has secured a $50,000 grant for the Village of Walton to help stabilize the slope on Townsend Street in the Village. The funding was secured through the State Municipal Grant Program, which was included in the Fiscal year 2015-2016. In 2015, a thunderstorm caused rushing water to discharge over the edge of the roadway, eroding the adjacent slope. The eroded slope has encroached upon the roadway, to the point that the soil supporting the guardrail posts are gone. This erosion has caused a safety issue along Townsend Street, a main thoroughfare in the community. Over 3,000 vehicles travel along the street every day.
“This infrastructure project is critically important for the safety of the Village of Walton residents and the vehicular traffic on Townsend Street,” said Senator Bonacic. “This grant will improve the safety of everyone traveling into the Village.”
“I want to thank Senator Bonacic for this $50,000 grant, which will help us rehabilitate one of our main roads in the Village of Walton,” said Village of Walton Mayor Edward Snow. “Grant money like this allows us to address our most pressing infrastructure needs.”
