Senator Bonacic Announces $50,000 Grant for the Village of Warwick
October 14, 2016
(Middletown, NY)- State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) is pleased to announce that the Village of Warwick has been awarded a $50,000 grant for a new walkway along McFarland Ave., and the development of a parking lot near the Memorial Park. The grant was secured through the State and Municipal Grant Program, which was funded as part of the 2016-2017 State Budget.
Due to poor sight distance and lack of sidewalks, the Village of Warwick has made plans to install a walkway adjacent to McFarland Drive, which borders Veterans’ Memorial Park, the Albert Wisner Public Library, Warwick Grove, and Homestead Village. The pathway will follow the entire distance of McFarland Drive. In addition, the grant will also help the Village develop a parking lot near the Memorial Park picnic pavilion. The pavilion is used by many civic organizations, and the need for parking and handicap parking is vital.
“I am pleased to have secured this funding for the Village of Warwick,” said Senator Bonacic. “The installation of a walkway along McFarland Drive will help keep pedestrians safe, and the development of a parking lot at Memorial Park will increase its use, and allow easier access. This grant also has the added benefit of saving the Village taxpayers money.”
The village of Warwick Mayor Michael Newhard said, “The Village of Warwick is very pleased to receive State and Municipal Facilities Program support from Senator Bonacic for the pedestrian walkway along McFarland Drive. The Walkway project will create a safe connection for walkers as well as enhance Veteran’s Memorial Park. The walkway will also be a link connecting neighborhoods to the Albert Wisner Public Library.”
