June 20, 2016
(Middletown, NY)-Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) announced significant wins for New Yorkers as the 2016 Legislative session came to close over the weekend. The legislative wins build on the sixth on - time budget, which was passed earlier this session.
Working in a bi-partisan manner, the Legislature was able to deliver on a wide array of issues this session, among them:
- Landmark laws and funding to combat heroin and opioid addiction;
- A comprehensive lead testing bill to ensure clean, safe drinking water in our schools;
- A sensible and compassionate paid family leave law;
- A major, new Middle Class Income Tax Cut of more than $4.2 billion for millions of middle class New Yorkers, as well as thousands of small businesses;
- Unprecedented level of school aid (nearly $25 billion);
- Property tax relief in the form of a new round of rebate checks;
- Greater investments in our environment;
- Fair, regionally-balanced funding for job-creating transportation projects across the state;
- An important new law to combat breast cancer; and
- Keeping spending growth below two-percent, which is crucial to protecting New Yorkers from higher taxes.
“By any measure, the 2016 Legislative session was a success that will improve the lives of everyday New Yorkers,” said Senator Bonacic. “From record increases in education spending, to landmark property tax relief, to regional parity in infrastructure spending, my colleagues in the legislature delivered.”
