October 4, 2016
(Middletown, NY)- State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) joined advocates yesterday for a press conference recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The press conference was hosted by Safe Homes of Orange County, a non-profit group that helps individuals who are victims of domestic violence, and took place at their headquarters in the City of Newburgh. Domestic Violence Awareness Month is recognized every October as a way to shine light on the scourge of domestic violence, and to educate those in the public on what domestic violence looks like, and ways to help stop it. The press conference also highlighted Safe Homes’ Clothesline Project, a display of t-shirts with messages from sexual violence survivors. Senator Bonacic delivered remarks at the press conference and thanked Safe Homes for their work in the community, and also detailed his efforts to provide funding to the group, $127,000 in grants the past three years.
