For generations, our community has been blessed with courageous volunteer firefighters – and this weekend provides a great opportunity to become a part of this proud tradition.
As part of an initiative called Recruit NY, fire departments from across the state will open their doors on April 23 and 24 as they look for new volunteer members.
These open houses will provide information about free training programs, responsibilities and what a typical day-in-the-life of a volunteer firefighter involves. You will also learn about some of the benefits you can receive from volunteering, such as tax breaks offered by the state and some local communities.
A complete schedule can be found by clicking here.
If you have ever considered volunteering for your local fire department, this weekend is a great time to visit and learn more.
