Erie Community College held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on it's new Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) academic center at its North Campus. Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer secured $15 million in state funding for the project in 2012.
"Today's groundbreaking for Erie Community College's new STEM building at the North Campus has been a long time coming, and it's finally here. I secured $15 million for the project over four years ago, and this new state-of-the-art facility will soon help connect Western New York workers to job security and higher wages," said Ranzenhofer.
The $30 million state-, county- and college-funded project will provide approximately 57,000 square feet of new facility space for labs, prep rooms and support spaces for ECC’s Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Engineering Science programs, as well as shared instructional spaces, collaborative study spaces, a tutoring center and faculty offices. A small café is proposed to be located at the first floor adjacent to the main entry plaza, which will provide a modest outdoor seating area to support the café.
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
