Senator Diaz’s Statement about the Nomination of Metropolitan High School Student Jose Nuñez for the Presidential Scholars Program
Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D) Bronx has released the following statement about the Nomination of Metropolitan High School Student Jose Nuñez for the Presidential Scholars Program:
“I am delighted to learn that Mr. Jose Nuñez, a high school Senior from Metropolitan High School, is the only student in Bronx County who has been nominated by New York State Education Commissioner Elia to apply for the Presidential Scholars Program.
Jose was among the students I recommended for consideration for this prestigious honor. I would also like to congratulate the follow students who were among those considered by their schools in my Senatorial District for their excellence in academics and technical education:
- The Metropolitan High School: Jose Nuñez; Yaritza Morales
- Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School: Crystal George; Naseem Haamid; Carlos Tax
- University Heights High School: Destiny Ruiz; Dejaun Harris

In the upcoming months, I will await the selections the Commission on Presidential Scholars will make for semi-finalists, finalists, from New York State and around the county.
