Murphy comments on Regents scrapping Common Core
February 22, 2016
JEFFERSON VALLEY, NY - Reacting to the Board of Regents announcement that the State should have a flexible timeline to implement a new, locally-driven curriculum to replace the failed Common Standards by 2019, Senator Terrence Murphy released the following statement:
"During my first year in the Senate I worked tirelessly to advocate against common core, it's horrendous implementation and the high stakes testing of our kids.
"Following action taken by my colleagues and I last year, today, the Board of Regents put forth a timetable for adopting new standards in New York State.
"As a parent of three kids, I believe today's actions represent an important next step in our continuing effort to move away from Common Core and towards the return of local control of our school. it is my goal that we work together to deliver the high quality education that will give every child the opportunity to succeed."
