American Red Cross issues urgent call for donors: 'Emergency Blood Shortage and the Need to Donate Now'

The summer months, right through the official end of the season in late September, is an urgent time to donate blood.  

According to the American Red Cross, blood donations decrease significantly in the summer and shortages can reach critical and emergency levels.
