Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester holding free informational forum on breast cancer screening and breast density on Thursday, September 15, in Bath ~ O’Mara issues reminder to interested participants

Bath, N.Y., September 13—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) today reminded area residents that the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester (BCCR) is offering a free informational forum, “Breast Cancer Screening: Breast Density and Why It Matters,” this Thursday, September 15, 2016 in Bath.

O’Mara, in partnership with the Alice & Henry Dormann Library in Bath, is sponsoring the free forum, which will be held at the Dormann Library (Empire Room) on 101 West Morris Street in Bath.  The forum is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.  It is open to the public and no prior registration is required.   The event is closed to the media to protect the privacy of the attendees.

According to the BCCR, nearly half of all women in the United States have some degree of dense breast tissue.

“The Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester is an active and welcome source of education and support for cancer patients, survivors and their families across our region,” said O’Mara. “We appreciate the Coalition providing this opportunity for area women to get more information on this vital health care issue, as well as to raise the public’s overall awareness of its importance.”

In addition to the participation of BCCR representatives, Dr. Edwin R. Acosta, a radiologist with the Associated Radiologists of the Finger Lakes, will be the evening’s Guest Speaker and lead the discussion on the latest information on breast density and answer questions from the audience.  Some of the questions that will be addressed include:

> What exactly is breast density?

> What are some factors that affect it?

> What are the screening options for patients with dense breasts?
