Senator Todd Kaminsky stopped by the Baldwin Public library today to serve lunch as part of the library's "Summer Food Service Program". The Program, sponsored by Island Harvest, provides free lunch to youths, up to age 18, following their weekly, Teens, Tots, and Tales Program, which is held every Monday and Thursday through August 11.
“The Baldwin Public Library provides so many valuable services to the community, and it was my privilege to join them today to serve summer lunches,” said Kaminsky. “Island Harvest does tremendous work, and their partnership with the library ensures that kids have access to a healthy lunch while they’re not in school. I enjoyed getting to know the children and hearing about what they’ve been up to over their summer breaks.”
Senator Kaminsky spoke to the kids about his role is in the State Legislature and how bills are passed. He also explained how his work in Albany effects their lives in the district.
“The Library is pleased to serve as a site for the Summer Food Service Program,” said Elizabeth Olesh, Library Director. “We are helping to ensure that kids and teens in our community have access to the nutritious meals they need to grow and learn while school is out. This year's Summer Learning Club theme is 'Exercise Your Mind: Read.' It's hard to exercise your mind or body if you haven't eaten."
