Students from the Bed-Stuy YMCA honored Dr. King with a Day of Service at PS 54. Here with Dordy Jordain, Assemblywoman Robinson, and Assemblyman Mosley
A Day of Service and Prayer

Observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Day in District 25 is a day of celebration, service, and prayerful reflection. As cold as this year's MLK Day was (and it was frigid!) my heart was warmed by the events of the day. For me, the young people from the Bedford Stuyvesant YMCA who chose to honor Dr. King's memory fully understood what an appropriate choice their Day of Service was. They spent the day working to improve PS 54, and did magnificent work. They then came together in the school auditorium to share their thoughts, musical performances, and listen to readings. I was very happy to join with my colleagues Assemblywomen Annette Robinson, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, and Assemblyman Walter Mosley.

Later, I attended a service at St. Mary's Episcopal Church and joined the congregation in readings and song. Also attending were Congressman Jeffries, Assemblyman Mosley, Public Advocate Letitia James, Boro President Eric Adams, Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo, City Comptroller Scott Stringer, and NYC Mayor Bill deBlasio!
