July 6, 2016
Senator Montgomery joins Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams. Councilwoman Darlene Mealy, New York State Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner/CEO James S. Rubin, New York State Office of Mental Health Commissioner Ann Marie T. Sullivan, M.D., New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development Deputy Commissioner Daniel Hernandez, Martin Dunn, President of Dunn Development Corp, residents of 331 Saratoga Avenue and community members to celebrate the opening of Bergen Saratoga Apartments, the newest affordable housing development in Senate District 25.
Senator Montgomery proclaimed “the development of the Bergen Saratoga Apartments is a prime example of the kind of public/private partnership that works. Dunn Development Corporation consistently provides high quality affordable units that our communities need and deserve. They understand and respect the needs of low-income families and individuals who seek supportive housing. They even go a step further by contracting with local businesses and prioritizing energy efficiency in their construction. I am always so impressed by their work and I am proud to join Mr. Dunn and my colleagues in celebrating the completion of the Bergen Saratoga Apartments."
“We have put our hearts into creating this project,” said Martin Dunn, president of the development group, in a statement. “We wanted to show that it’s possible to build a beautiful building, make it highly energy efficient, and still provide affordable rents and serve a diverse group of people.”
Located in the Ocean Hill/Brownsville section of Brooklyn, Bergen Saratoga Apartments provides affordable housing for low-income working families at 50% and 60% of Area Median Income along with units set aside for formerly homeless individuals under the New York/New York III initiative. CAMBA, Inc. will provide 24-7 front desk services as well as supportive services from a 1st-floor office suite. Amenities include a community room with a kitchen, a library/computer room, a tenant garden, and a children’s play area.
This project is a true public-private partnership, with land contributed by the City of New York coupled with subsidies provided by the State of New York and private bank financing. The Bergen Saratoga Apartments were built by Dunn Development — a real estate group that specializes in supportive and affordable housing in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Upper Manhattan — in conjunction with support from the city and state in the form of tax credits, rental subsidies and services through the “New York/New York III Initiative,” a city program that aims to provide supportive housing to homeless New Yorkers.
