Senator Montgomery joins Neighborhood Housing Services of Bedford Stuyvesant at their Annual Awards Reception and Benefit

On September 22nd, Senator Montgomery joined the Board of Directors of Neighborhood Housing Services of Bedford Stuyvesant (NHSBS) at their Annual Awards Reception and Benefit at Weeksville Heritage Center. The theme, “Expanding Our Vision in Brooklyn”, highlighted the anticipated growth of the organization. The Annual Benefit is an opportunity for the Board and Staff to celebrate the successes of the past year, and to promote the vision for the organization’s future. It also provides an opportunity to honor individuals and organizations that reflect NHS’ mission of providing resources to stabilize communities.
NHSBS is a non-profit organization committed to empowering the Brooklyn community through education and counseling toward financial stability and successful long-term home ownership. By providing thoughtful guidance in home ownership, foreclosure intervention, home maintenance, rental housing, and financial literacy for youth and adults, NHSBS helps to equip our neighbors for a promising and more resilient future. For more than 20 years, NHSBS has worked to increase their impact in the community and in the marketplace while staying true to our mission to provide resources to stabilize neighborhoods.
Senator Montgomery presented proclamations to the evening’s honorees including the recipient of the Community Partner Award, Municipal Credit Union, accepted by Mr. Corey Fernandes, President of Business Development and Member Relations; the recipient of the Catherine L. Arline Citizen’s Participation Award, Ms. Martha Works, former President of the 81st Precinct Community Council; the recipient of the Neighborhood Recognition Award, the Honorable Judge Betty E. Staton (ret.), Executive Director of Bedford-Stuyvesant Community Legal Services (BSCLS) and the recipient of the Award of Appreciation and Keynote Speaker, the NYC Council Member Robert E. Cornegy Jr.
