SENATOR LANZA AND ASSEMBLYMAN TITONE SEEK PHOTOGRAPHS FOR “THEN AND NOW” PRESENTATION AT NINTH ANNUAL VIETNAM VETERANS’ DAY CELEBRATION

Senator Andrew Lanza and Assemblyman Matthew Titone will host their ninth annual Vietnam Veterans’ Day celebration at Tottenville High School on Saturday, April 8th at 1:00 p.m.

March 29, 1973 ended one of the longest wars in United States history when the last troops withdrew from South Vietnam. Due to the unpopularity of the Vietnam War, the men and women who survived, and the 58,195 who fought and died, were not given the respect and gratitude they deserved for serving our country. In 2008, Lanza and Titone authored a new law designating March 29th as Vietnam Veterans’ Day in the State of New York, and have since carried on a tradition of commemorating those who fought bravely in the War. Lanza and Titone gather each year to recognize the sacrifices of our Vietnam Veterans and memorialize those who died while serving - 4,120 of which were residents of the State of New York.

The legislators are seeking submissions for a special “Then & Now” presentation and ask for assistance gathering photographs from Vietnam Veterans across Staten Island. Both a recent photo and one taken during time of service should be e-mailed to DMYTROW@NYSENATE.GOV by March 27th, along with the veteran’s name, contact information and branch and years of service.
