March 22, 2017
ALBANY – Today, State Senator Daniel Squadron, Senate sponso
“While the federal administration seeks to divide, the State Assembly is working to bring New Yorkers together. New York has long been a place committed to equality and fairness. There's a real opportunity and obligation to rebuke the Trump Administration’s embrace of discrimination -- it's urgent the Senate Majority act on it.
“GENDA codifies the basic protections in housing, employment and public accommodations ensured by Governor Cuomo's executive actions, and which most New Yorkers can take for granted.
“Thank you to Assemblymember Gottfried, Speaker Heastie, Governor Cuomo, Senator Hoylman, my colleagues, and the advocates who continue to push for fairness and equality.”

Squadron filed a Motion for Committee Consideration earlier this month to force GENDA to be placed on the Senate's Investigations and Government Operations Committee agenda within 45 days. In 2015, Governor Cuomo took executive action clarifying protections for transgender New Yorkers are covered under the state's Human Rights Law.
