Statement from State Senator Gustavo Rivera on the Worst Mass Casualty Shooting in U.S. History That Took Place Today in Las Vegas, Nevada
October 2, 2017
"First, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the families and friends of those concertgoers whose lives were taken away yesterday in Las Vegas. My thoughts and prayers are with each of them as they start coping with such a heart wrenching and life changing loss.
Once again, our country has to come to terms with yet another deadly act of domestic terror. This time it was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, leaving 58 people dead and more than 500 injured. From the horrific acts at Orlando's Pulse Nightclub, to Virginia Tech, to Sandy Hook, how many more Americans have to be brutally murdered in order for Washington to finally and decisively enact stronger gun control laws through effective legislative action? We owe it to those who have lost their lives and to those whose lives will be forever affected by this senseless act of violence, to take action and make the necessary legislative changes to avoid these tragedies from happening again.
This cannot become our new normal. We need to do better. We must do better.
