(Albany) - State Senator Gustavo Rivera released the following statement after bill S1100, also known as the Vets Connect, passed the New York State Senate yesterday. Vets Connect will allow veterans to voluntarily identify themselves when applying or renewing their driver's license and allow the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to share their contact information with the Division of Veterans' Affairs. This bill has passed unanimously in the State Senate for the last four years, but it has never been brought for a vote in the Assembly Transportation Committee.
"I am proud that my colleagues in the Senate have joined me in passing Vets Connect for the fourth year in a row. It is critical that the men and women who have bravely served in our Armed Forces are made adequately aware of the benefits and programs available to them and this measure will create another avenue to ensure they are properly notified. I urge Chairman Gantt to give his colleagues in the Assembly Transportation Committee the opportunity to review this common sense measure and ensure our Veterans have access to the resources and services that they need to thrive."
