History of Women Abolitionists & New York State

Honored to have the opportunity to bring together academics, curators, community scholars, activists, and neighborhood residents for a Conference on Women and the Abolitionist Movement hosted in partnership with Medgar Evers College Library.

The conference is inspired by the energy of public history as practiced by a wide variety of people who do many different kinds of research in the community and in the academy. The conference builds on the tremendous interest in slavery and resistance in the North which was spurred by the fight to save the African Burial Ground in Lower Manhattan and the Duffield Abolitionist story in Brooklyn. 

A big thanks to all who shared their scholarship with us and I am grateful to have such a strong partner in Medgar Evers College Library. This conference was made possible by the thoughtful contributions of so many and I appreciate the engaged participation by students and community residents.
