Thanks to documentary filmmaker Danielle Rose for bringing her poignant and powerful film, "In Our Backyard" to Dweck Cultural Center at the Brooklyn Public Library tonight. Human trafficking is not a distant problem—it impacts our neighbors right here in Brooklyn.
Thanks to all the panelists, and special thanks to the inspiring survivor advocates who served as panelists Iryna and Sharise. Thanks to my colleagues who partnered in presenting this free screening and panel discussion, NYS Assemblymember Walter Mosley, NYS Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon, NYC Public Advocate Letitia James, and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, and thanks to community partners, the NYC Mayor's Office to Combat Domestic Violence, the Brooklyn Public Library, and ECPAT USA.
