Important gathering in front of the NYC Department of Education headquarters today – voicing objections to Department of Education (DOE) imposed changes planned for Medgar Evers College Preparatory School (MECPS) and P.S. 235.
The coalition – really a meeting of the minds including parents, educators, and elected officials – objects to DOE imposed changes to admissions policies at these high performing schools, especially given that the school demonstrate years of proven success. In addition, the coalition raised the point that community consultation and input were not sought prior to the DOE imposing changes, which are feared to threaten the schools’ successful academic model. The coalition believes it is imperative that the DOE reverse this decision and prioritize the success of the students.
