Brooks, Senate Pass Bill to Put Money Back Into LIRR Commuters' Pockets
Sen. John Brooks
May 22, 2017
Today, the New York State Senate passed bill S.6421, which authorizes the MTA to withhold payments to Amtrak and return that money to impacted commuters in the form of free rail tickets, until Amtrak raises its on time performance standard to ninety-five percent. Senator John Brooks, a co-sponsor of the bill, released the following statement after its passage:
"Long Islanders have heard the same sad story since the never-ending dysfunction began, and have seen no relief for missed meetings and family events. Action must be taken, and this bill does just that. LIRR commuters are already paying too much for inadequate service and I am proud to co-sponsor and vote for legislation that will put money back into the pockets of hard working taxpayers right here on Long Island."
Senator John Brooks has been a relentless advocate for LIRR commuters ever since taking office earlier this year.
