After standing alongside Governor Andrew Cuomo at the signing of New York’s water quality bill, Senator John Brooks (SD-8) issued the following statement:
“Ensuring that Long Island's water is safe and pristine and that our water infrastructure is modernized is of the utmost importance. I am overjoyed by New York’s $2.5 billion commitment to improve and enhance our water quality and infrastructure, and thank Governor Cuomo for his leadership. We cannot afford to take any chances when it comes to preserving Long Island’s drinking water supply for future generations.”
Senator Brooks is committed to protecting the quality of Long Island’s drinking water and improving its water infrastructure. In the Senate, he has introduced legislation that requires the Health Department to conduct a health review and establish a maximum contaminant level for the “Erin Brockovich” chemical, chromium-6, and a bill that would protect and preserve the Lloyd Sands aquifer. In February, he and his Senate Democratic colleagues announced a comprehensive legislative package that would protect New Yorkers’ water quality and health.
