Senator Brooks Proposes Solutions for Dangerous Farmingdale Intersection

Senator John Brooks has requested an immediate traffic study to discover solutions to the hazardous traffic conditions at the intersection of Route 109 and Main Street in Farmingdale.

Concerned about the safety of both motorists and pedestrians, Brooks wrote a letter to Matthew J. Driscoll, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Transportation.  Brooks urged the DOT to consider suggestions from residents, including the installation of additional traffic signals or instituting enhanced turning prohibitions.

“Action must be taken before any more lives are tragically lost," said Senator Brooks.  "I implore the DOT to immediately evaluate the intersection and determine how to minimize future accidents.”

Kathy Lively, an active member of the Farmingdale community, supports a traffic study.  Lively said, “Over the past few years, far too many accidents have occurred at this intersection due to inadequate, confusing signals and signage; we need to improve the safety situation immediately to prevent future accidents, injuries or fatalities.”
