Senator Bonacic Announces Approval of Construction Projects for Libraries in the 42nd Senate District

(Middletown, NY)- State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) is pleased to announce today that several libraries in the 42nd Senate District have been approved by the New York State Education Department and New York State Library for capital improvements to their facilities. The funds are from $19 million in capital funds for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects that was provided in the FY2016-2017 State Budget.
Project activities and expenditures eligible for funding from the State Aid for Library Construction Program include financing construction of new library buildings, construction of additions to existing buildings, and the renovation and/or rehabilitation of existing space. Projects may include roof replacement, purchase and installation of alternative energy resources, new HVAC systems, windows, doors, lighting systems, electrical upgrades, and construction of new or replacement of old walkways and parking lots. Broadband infrastructure projects are also eligible.
“New York’s public libraries are in urgent need of renovation and upgrading,” said Senator Bonacic. “I’m pleased to announce that this funding, part of the FY 2016-2017 Budget that I supported. will help libraries in the 42nd Senate District renovate and upgrade their facilities which in turn will provide a truly enjoyable experience for everyone.”
A list of the awards in the 42nd Senate District include
- $157, 333 for exterior renovations including additional and handicap parking at the Albert P. Wisner Library in Warwick;
- $105,936 for the installation of a geothermal well system at the Goshen Public Library and Historical Society;
- $10,980 for rear parking lot improvements and new ADA door at the Port Jervis Free Library;
- $72,248 for the replacement of boilers at Thrall Library in Middletown;
- $9,855 for the renovation of two restrooms at the Tuxedo Park Library;
- $33,040 for the replacement of HVAC units and the restoration of an exterior masonry wall at the Liberty Public Library;
- $29,274 to repoint mortar on the outside of the of the building and caulk all the windows at the Western Sullivan Public Library-Delaware Free Branch;
- $5,810 for interior repairs at the Elting Public Library in New Paltz; and
- $7,396 for additional parking spaces at the Gardiner Library.
The FY2017-2018 State Budget included $24 million for projects that will be announced in Spring 2018.
