February 23, 2017
(Middletown, NY)- State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) announced today that the New York State Department of Transportation will begin construction to replace the NYS-Route 55 Bridge over Rondout Creek, located in Wawarsing on March 13, 2017. The project will involve a full closure of Route 55 at the bridge location, requiring a detour to be implemented.
Construction at this project site includes the complete removal and reconstruction of the bridge structure, as well as fabrication and installation of new guide and bridge railing. Construction activities will also include roadway approach reconstruction and stream back erosion protection in the bridge vicinity, in addition to work zone traffic control.
“I thank the Department of Transportation for their continued commitment to road and bridge improvements throughout New York State and I look forward to working with them on future projects,” said Senator Bonacic.
A signed detour will be in place for the duration of construction activities, and will direct Route 55 passenger vehicle traffic onto Continental Road, Old Rt. 209, and Plank Road. A separate truck detour will be signed directing truck traffic onto NYS Routes 42, 55 and 209.
