Senator Bonacic Applauds State Investment of $3.4 Million for Water Infrastructure in the Town of Liberty
June 2, 2017
(Middletown, NY)- State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) today applauded the announcement by the State of New York of a $3.4 million dollar investment for water infrastructure improvements in the Town of Liberty. The $3.4 million includes a $2 million Water Infrastructure Improvement Act Grant, and $1.4 million zero interest loan to finance the costs associated with the construction of a new water storage tank; replacement of aged water mains, well pumps, and a new emergency generator to improve the system’s compliance with current standards.
The funding was approved through the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation Board of Directors. To date, $225 million in Water Infrastructure Improvement Act grants have leveraged over $1 billion in total project costs for over 120 projects in New York State. These grants resulted in over $629 million in taxpayer savings.
“This $3.4 million investment will greatly improve water infrastructure in the Town of Liberty,” said Senator Bonacic. “I’m pleased to have supported the Clean Water Infrastructure Act of 2017 which committed a much needed $2.5 billion to water improvements throughout New York. With this investment in the Town of Liberty, we’re already seeing the positive impacts of that legislation.”
Additionally, as part of the Clean Water Infrastructure Act of 2017, $255 million in funding for vital drinking water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades is currently available. $225 million is available through WIIA and $30 million is available under the new Intermunicipal Water Infrastructure Grants Program. EFC will be accepting applications for these two grant programs until June 23, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
