(Middletown, NY)- State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) announced today that he has successfully secured a $25,000 grant for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. The funding was made available through the Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. The money for Byrne JAG was appropriated in the 2017-2018 State Budget (Chapter 53 of the Laws of 2017), and the $25,000 for the Orange County DA was allocated in a resolution at the end of the legislative session.

Grant funds will be used to purchase equipment to investigate and prosecute crimes including fatal and non-fatal shootings. Equipment to be purchased includes computer software, and other mobile devices to assist in drafting of search warrants and interface with crime intelligence centers throughout the state. The information gathered would be used in real-time during investigations of violent crime.

“It is vitally important that our law enforcement agencies have the most up-to-date equipment and data sharing technology as they fight crime everyday,” said Senator Bonacic. “I’m confident that the District Attorney’s Office will use this funding to further its mission of protecting the citizens of  Orange County.”

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said, “I want to thank Senator Bonacic for his continued support of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. This grant will allow our office continue to share data and intelligence with other agencies throughout the state, while also helping us in our continued efforts to prevent crimes from happening in Orange County.”
