Born in Salina, Puerto Rico, George Rodriguez arrived in New York, destined to touch the lives of thousands of people, many of whom will never know him personally but whose lives will forever be influenced by his vision, passion, compassion and willingness to serve.
Mr. Rodriguez served his nation with distinction in the United States Air Force and is a veteran of the Korean War. He returned to New York to defend his community, fighting against discrimination and for social justice. This cause led George to help establish Bronx Legal Services, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
As President of the Puerto Rican Community Development Project (PRCDP), Chairman of the New York City Model Cities Program-Innovative Programs for Low-Income Housing, President of “La Cruzada Civica del Voto,” and Grand Marshal and past President of the Puerto Rican Day Parade, Mr. Rodriguez has worked tirelessly in the community. He has spent his career in public service creating scholarship programs for our youth, building affordable housing in our communities and working in collaboration with others paving the way for today’s political influence of the Puerto Rican/Latino community.
Some of Mr. Rodriguez’s other accomplishments include serving as Chairman of Community Board 1 and as former Chairman of Community Board 2, Chairman of the Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center’s Community Advisory Board, Chairman of the New York City Health and
Hospital Corporation’s Council of Community Advisory Boards, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Hunt’s Point Multi-Service Center.
