Griffo: Spread of Lyme and tick-borne diseases a “serious public health issue”

The Senate Task Force on Lyme Disease and Tick-Borne Diseases recently released a comprehensive report aimed at combating the spread of Lyme and tick-borne diseases in the state.

New York State has the third highest number of confirmed cases of Lyme disease in the entire country, according to reports by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The report highlights the immediate need for a statewide action plan, as well as a legislative commitment to empowering patients and funding critically necessary research to reduce the tick population.

“This is a serious public health issue across the state," Sen. Griffo said.  “While we remain one of the hardest-hit regions for such diseases, my colleagues and I in the Senate have been actively working to reverse this trend. I am looking forward to making even more progress in the days and months ahead.”
