Local Memorial Day observances: Read and watch more
May 26, 2017
On the 40th Anniversary of D-Day, June 6, 1984, then-President Ronald Reagan said, "We will always remember. We will always be proud. We will always be prepared, so we may always be free."
Out of the countless words that have been spoken or written to capture Memorial Day’s essence across the generations, these words, spoken at the Omaha Beach Memorial Cemetery, are among the most memorable. View President Reagan's entire speech HERE.
There are many ceremonies, parades, and other observances taking place across the region, state and nation to honor our veterans, past and present, and to pay tribute to the brave men and women protecting and making the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms at this very moment.
See the links below for a listing of some of them:
Last May 25th at the New York State Capitol, Father Lewis Brown, a former pastor at All Saints Parish in Corning who devoted 22 years of active duty as a United States Navy Chaplain, delivered an inspiring and incredibly well-received "Prayer for the Military" to open the New York State Senate's daily legislative session. It was a timely Invocation in advance of Memorial Day, and we are grateful to be able to once again share Father Brown's prayer HERE.
Best wishes for a safe, enjoyable and memorable Memorial Day weekend across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions.
