Senator Montgomery joins Executive Director Bernell K. Grier, staff and supporters of IMPACCT Brooklyn to honor and recognize Deb Howard, IMPACCT's retired former Executive Director at its Celebrating Flourishing Communities 2017 Awards Reception.
Senator Montgomery introduced a Legislative Resolution honoring Deb Howard for her tireless advocacy and dedication to community empowerment throughout her career. For 26 years, Deb Howard has fought for the affordable housing movement and diligently worked to better the community through her work with the organization. A leader in community development in Brooklyn, Deb has dedicated much of her professional life to improving neighborhoods and advocating for good housing policy; throughout her professional and civic endeavors, she has consistently epitomized the values of character, courage, and commitment in her unwavering service to her community.
The event also honored Denise Scott, the Executive Vice President for Programs at Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) for her outstanding leadership in community development.
Pratt Area Community Council, now IMPACCT Brooklyn, was formed in 1964 by three civic-minded individuals — Reverend Richard Johnson, Amos Taylor and Furman Walls. Other organizations and individuals soon joined. Working together under the PACC banner, the people of Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, the Wallabout Community, and later Bedford Stuyvesant, fought for decent, affordable housing, tenants’ rights, and economic renewal.
IMPAACT is an award-winning nonprofit organization which fights to preserve project-based Section 8 Housing, works to prevent foreclosures, organizes against lead paint hazards, educates residents through workshops and counseling, provides loans and grants to homebuyers and small businesses, and creates business retention and revitalization activities.
