Senator Montgomery joins the community to honor Renee Giordano upon the occasion of her retirement as Executive Director of Sunset Park Avenue Business Improvement District (SPBID).
For the past twenty years, Renee has worked tirelessly to revitalize the 5th Avenue shopping corridor and enhance the quality of life for the Sunset Park community. Renee's blended her community activism into her leadership role at the Sunset Park BID. In that capacity, she kept lampposts free of stickers and posters, established the ROSE program, developed one of the largest “Safe Haven” programs in the city, and had the BID act as the fiscal conduit for numerous grass roots civic groups.
Renee Giordano did not stop there, among her other contributions include personally raising $1.2 million to double the space of the Sunset Park Library, having all of 5” Avenue and the community park wired for free Wi-Fi, developing the 72”” Precinct Challenge Coin program, and bringing over thirty government grants to Sunset Park, to name a few; and
The SPBID runs from 38th to 64th Street along 5th Avenue in Brooklyn and includes 384 properties. Within those properties, there are over 500 mostly small Mom and Pop shops, offering almost any product or service you may need. The BID provides supplemental services and hosts events throughout the year, bringing together the businesses and customers in fun events. Residents can discover the great things about the Sunset Park Main Street while the shopowners can thank them for their patronize.
