Senator Montgomery visits IKEA to learn more about their renewable energy initiatives
Senator Velmanette Montgomery
December 18, 2017
Senator Montgomery joined colleagues, community leaders and neighbors at Red Hook IKEA Store's Swedish JULBORD Holiday Community Luncheon and met with several of the new leaders within IKEA's Brooklyn Team.
The recent visit provided Senator Montgomery with the opportunity to learn more about IKEA's rooftop solar energy system. IKEA's 1,104 solar panels is expected to produce 240,000 kilowatts of renewable electricity annually for the store. By 2020, the energy produced by the solar panels be more than what the store uses.

As part of Senator Montgomery's ongoing support for renewable energy initiatives, she is proud to sponsor legislation (S4714) that would increase the allowable tax credit for the installation of solar energy system equipment. The allowable personal tax credit for solar energy equipment has not been increased since 2005 despite the fact that the purchase and installation costs remain higher than most New Yorkers can afford.
