It is my pleasure to support the work of the Citizens Committee for NYC and the multiplicity of community groups whose work helps Central Brooklyn residents thrive. These community groups meet important needs, whether improving the quality of life of the block or tackling challenges our neighborhoods face. The Citizens Committee and these community groups demonstrate how we turn neighborhood expertise into neighborhood action, truly making our aspirations for our Brooklyn neighborhoods a reality.
Projects receiving 2018 Neighborhood Grant funding have a variety of aims, including programs to focus on aiding domestic violence survivors, mentorship, entrepreneurship, anti-gang & anti-violence efforts, immigrant communities, youth empowerment, education, health & wellness, community arts, and block beautification. Community group grant recipients being recognized at the event hail from Bedford Stuyvesant, Brownsville, Crown Heights, East Flatbush, Flatbush, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, and Sunset Park. The total grants awarded to Central Brooklyn organizations amount to more than $46,000, with the average grant amount exceeding $1,500.
