Free Lead Testing for Children This Month!

Critically important to take action against lead poisoning on-the-ground in our neighborhoods and through legislation in Albany. This issue is particularly important now given revelations about NYCHA’s failure to conduct thousands of lead paint inspections.
As health experts report: no know level of lead exposure is considered safe, lead produces a variety of injuries, children are particularly susceptible to injury because they are still developing, early exposure to lead can impact children in irreversible ways including harming school performance and changing behavior with serious, lifelong consequences.
In our community, with the outstanding help of community-minded partner KāMIN Health Crown Heights Urgent Care, we offer free lead testing to children this January: Mon to Fri: 8am to 10pm, Sat: 4pm to 11pm, Sun: 9am to 10pm, at KāMIN Health Crown Heights Urgent Care, located at 555 Lefferts Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11225. Please feel free to call (718) 360-8074 for additional information.
In Albany, I am advancing legislation, which would require young children entering New York City schools to be tested for lead exposure. In addition, my legislation requires the school district to publish materials to explain the lead testing process, what results mean, and how parents can get help for a child with elevated blood lead levels.
Given the seroiusness of this problem, we need to unite as a community to ensure all our children are safe.
