Honoring Patrolman Moses P. Cobb

My pleasure to join with the 77th Precinct officers, Crown Heights community, and family of Patrolman Moses P. Cobb yesterday to honor the 100th anniversary of his retirement. He had an incredible life and career, including pathbreaking success as an officer with the NYPD. He was the first African-American officer to retire from the force and his life story includes a 600 mile walk from North Carolina to Brooklyn. He also served as mentor to the first African-American NYPD sergeant, Samuel James Battle, who went on to become the first African-American lieutenant and the first black parole commissioner. Cobb left a truly important legacy for law enforcement, our City, and all our communities!
