Senator Bonacic Announces $50,000 Grant for the Town of Callicoon
March 27, 2018
(Middletown, NY)- State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) announced today that the Town of Callicoon has been awarded a $50,000 grant for the construction of a salt storage facility for the Highway Department. The grant was secured through the State and Municipal Facilities Program, funding for which was appropriated in the 2017-2018 State Budget.
Approaching its 50th year of usage, the Town of Callicoon’s salt storage facility is in need of significant repair. The present structure is also not large enough for the storage of an adequate supply of ice control material for a significant winter weather event. Additionally, in a proposed shared services agreement, the Town of Callicoon will offer storage space in a new, larger facility to the Village of Jeffersonville and the Sullivan West Central School District for their ice control materials.
“This grant will improve operations at the Town of Callicoon Highway Department,” said Senator Bonacic. “In addition, it will save the local taxpayers money.”
Town of Callicoon Supervisor Tom Bose added, “Once again Senator Bonacic has had the best interest of the residents of the Town of Callicoon in mind by securing yet another State and Municipal (SAM) grant. This most recent source of funding will assist the Town with the cost of construction of a new salt storage facility. Thank you Senator Bonacic."
