Senator Bonacic Announces $75,000 Grant for the Town of New Paltz
February 21, 2018
(Middletown, NY)- State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) announced today that the Town of New Paltz has been awarded a $75,000 grant for improvements to the New Paltz Volunteer Fire Department Station and the purchase of new equipment. The grant was secured through the State Municipal Facilities Program, funding for which was appropriated in the 2017-2018 State Budget.
The grant will help the Town of New Paltz replace the current fire station located at the corner of Henry W. DuBois Drive and North Putt Corners Road. This new facility will allow the volunteer fire department to have all the fire apparatus in one central location and will provide the necessary space needed for a busy and growing department.
The grant will also be used to help purchase turnout gear lockers, which will allow for drying and ventilating bunker gear and protect it from UV radiation. The Town also intends to install a vehicle exhaust removal system, which will prevent exposure to firefighters and contamination of living and sleeping areas to exhaust emissions.
“Our volunteer firefighters are working every day to ensure that our communities are safe, and they deserve to have the best equipment and facilities,” said Senator Bonacic. “Not only will the grant help ensure that the members of the New Paltz volunteer fire department can continue to do their jobs effectively, it will save the local taxpayers money.”
Town of New Paltz Supervisor Neil Bettez said, "This grant will ensure that the members of the New Paltz volunteer fire department can continue to bravely serve the residents of our Town. I thank Senator Bonacic for his continued advocacy on behalf of the taxpayers in the Town of New Paltz
