Senator Bonacic's Bill to Allow Charitable Organizations to Utilize Electronic Bell Jar Machines in their Facilities Passes the Senate and Assembly
June 21, 2018
(Albany, NY)- State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) is pleased to announce that legislation he sponsors, S.994C, which would allow charitable organizations like the American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. (VFW), the ability to utilize electronic bell jar vending machines in their facilities has passed the Senate and the Assembly.
Many charitable organizations have seen a great reduction in the revenue they generate from charitable gaming, and specifically the sale of bell jar (otherwise known as pull-tab) tickets. Veteran’s organizations historically derive more revenue from bell jar tickets than any other group of charitable organizations.
From 2001 to 2015 bell jar revenues to charitable organizations have fallen over 50%, which has severely affected the ability of New York veteran’s organizations to keep their posts open and provide services to their members and our communities.
“I’m pleased the Senate and Assembly have passed this bill which will help veteran’s organizations greatly increase revenues for the operation of their posts and lodges,” said Senator Bonacic. “In tough fiscal times, non-profits and charitable organizations are struggling to raise money. This legislation will provide another resource to help raise much needed revenue, and I urge the Governor to sign it.”
