Statement from Senator Bonacic on Governor Cuomo's 2018 State of the State Address

John J. Bonacic

January 3, 2018

(Albany, NY)- “The Governor has laid out his policy goals for this legislative session and now is the time for Republicans and Democrats to come together to do the peoples work. My colleagues in the Senate Republican Conference are committed to helping hardworking taxpayers of New York State by not increasing taxes, providing regulatory relief so small businesses can create jobs, and continuing to work to end the heroin and opioid epidemic.”

“One part of the Governor’s speech that I was particularly glad to hear was the proposal to invest $34 million into Stewart International Airport. The proposal will modernize Stewart and continue its transformation as a world-class airport. This investment will expand international passenger service, enhance mobility for travelers through Stewart Airport Express, and install carport systems to support solar power.

“Additionally I was pleased that the Governor put forward a five-point plan to combat hunger for students from kindergarten through college, which includes investments in farm-to-school programs. I believe that no child in poverty should go hungry in New York and across America. I was also glad to hear the Governor discuss eliminating outside income for legislators, something I have previously supported to restrict the potential for conflicts of interest and unethical behavior by legislators seeking to enrich themselves.”

“With a projected $4 billion budget deficit, we will have to make important decisions this legislative session. I am committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, and in both houses, to see that the people’s business is done.”
